WINTER 2018 | ADVOCATE 5
at the capitol
T
hat's how many voters' doors that thousands of
AEA member activists knocked on to increase
voter turnout in the 2018 General Election.
After the Arizona Supreme Court's announcement
to remove the Invest in Education initiative from
the November ballot, educators turned toward
supporting candidates who took the Invest in
Education pledge. Their efforts paid off with the
election of AEA member Kathy Hoffman as the
new Superintendent of Public Instruction, past AEA
member Kyrsten Sinema as the first female Senator
from Arizona, and voters rejected the voucher
expansion measure, Prop 305! In addition, four more
pro-public education candidates were elected to the
Arizona House, bringing us closer to taking over a
chamber of the state legislature. Thank you to all the
volunteer "Knockstars" who dedicated so much time
and effort to our voter turnout efforts.
