Torrance Memorial also received designations as "Best Medical Group" for Torrance Health IPA (THIPA)/Torrance Memorial Physician Network (TMPN), "Best Urgent Care," "Favorite Pharmacy," "Favorite Gift Store" for the Torrance Memorial Gift Shop, "Favorite Health/Nutrition Store" for HealthLinks and "Favorite Knee Center" for TMPN Orthopedic. These results were published in the 27th annual Reader's Choice Awards Magazine. U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT Torrance Memorial has been recog- nized as a Best Hospital for 2018-19 for the seventh straight year by U.S. News & World Report. This year the report recognizes Torrance Memorial as 21st in the state, jumping five rankings higher than last year. It also placed Torrance Memorial as the 10th best hospital in Los Angeles/Orange County region. In addition, Torrance Memorial was recognized as high performing in the following specialties: abdominal aortic aneurism, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery. COMMISSION ON CANCER The Commission of Cancer (CoC), a program of the American College of Surgeons, recognized Torrance Memorial for its quality of patient care. To qualify for accreditation, hospitals' cancer programs must exhibit a commitment to providing comprehensive, high-qual- ity and patient-centered care. JOINT COMMISSION Torrance Memorial received certification from the Joint Commission in two areas: hip replacement and knee replace- ment. These certifications are in addition to the accred- itation given from the Joint Commission for the hospital, laboratory and home care. To qualify for certification, health care programs must be in compliance with all standards, clinical practices and guidelines, and meet performance measurement requirements. GET WITH THE GUIDELINES Torrance Memorial Medical Center's Lundquist Lurie Cardiovascular Institute received the Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, Resuscitation Gold Quality Achievement Award and Stroke Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award. These honors recognize consistent compliance with quality measures and guidelines, as outlined by the American Heart Association. BABY FRIENDLY USA Torrance Memorial Medical Center has received prestigious international recognition as a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility. Baby-Friendly USA, Inc. is a U.S. authority on the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund. The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. BURN ACCREDITATION Torrance Memorial Burn Center has once again been verified by the American Burn Association (ABA), in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons, as one of just three accred- ited burn centers in the Los Angeles County area. This recognition serves as a true mark of distinction for a burn center and is an indicator to government, third-party, patients and their families, as well as accreditation orga- nizations, that the Burn Center provides comprehensive, high-quali- ty care to patients, from the time of injury to rehabilitation.
