She didn't like the idea of the girls committing suicide by driving off the Grand Canyon. She was concerned that there would be copycats. I had to fly back to LA to meet with Ridley and tell him we lost our key location. Man, was that a long trip. I showed him my pictures and explained the situation. He looked at the photos and said that in fact, the scale of the Grand Canyon was too big. When the car launched off the cliff, it would look like a tiny speck against the vast background. I needed to find the Grand Canyon, but in smaller scale. After months of research and scouting, we ended up at Dead Horse Point in Moab, Utah. The scale was perfect. I moved to Los Angeles in 1993 and wouldn't you know that my first feature took me back to the East Coast on Major League II. This led to a job representing the Maryland Film Office in Los Angeles, which allowed me to keep my hand in production and build more contacts while helping increase production in Maryland. It was time to move on. Another favorite film was The Bridges of Madison County. One of the challenges was to close down the entire town square of Winterset, Iowa, for filming. How do you do that? There were dozens of businesses. How do you compensate everyone fairly? Some clearly make more than others, but if you pay one more than another, there'll be jealousy. They had just built a new high school a couple of years before, and they needed a good sound system. Bingo! I arranged to give them the money for their sound system, and worked out a $1.00 location fee to every business on the town square. Business owners kept thanking me for what we were doing for the community. It was a real win-win. When I shot Rosemary's sets of The Haunted Mansion for her portfolio, I realized there was a need for this type of work. Still photographers on shows only shot the actors on set for publicity; no one was shooting the actual sets. Digital photography was now embraced by professionals. I approached this as architectural photography and purchased a full-frame digital camera and a tilt- shift lens, and launched into a new career path.
