Spring 2018
Dear MeMbers,
As Awards Committee co-chair and Guild president, I may
be a bit biased, but the 5th Annual LMGI Awards were really
terrific. We are grateful so many location professionals and
film commissioners traveled to join us to honor the work of our
peers. We are in such amazing, creative company—colleagues
who work every day to provide locations that help tell the story,
whether for a film, a television show or a commercial.
The LMGI Awards were created to call attention to our craft,
which is often overlooked. These awards have become a focal point for conversations
about the collaborative process through which the visual arts are forged and shed light on
the human condition. Working with directors, production designers, cinematographers
and producers—location scouts and managers capture the real-world analogues to the
script or storyboard that propel the narrative forward. Congratulations to the winners
and all the nominees. We are proud to be in such company.
Congratulations to our hardworking Awards Committee. This year presented a new set
of challenges for us, as we fell out of timing with the AFCI. We missed having many of
our film commission colleagues attend, but are grateful for your support from afar. And
we are so grateful to our film commission colleagues who were able to be there. We so
appreciate your friendship and support. Thanks also to Netflix, our Premier Sponsor,
and our many other sponsors. Thanks to IngleDodd Media, Honeysweet Productions and
Weissman/Markovitz Communications for putting together a fabulous evening. Special
thanks to everyone at the Alex Theatre for being such gracious hosts.
The Location Managers Guild International provides a platform, allowing colleagues
to share their experiences and promote best practices on location. We do that by
publishing our LMGI Compass magazine four times a year with photos and articles
highlighting the work of location professionals and addressing common issues. Our
website, locationmanagers.org, is another place to give and receive information vital to
those working in the field or just interested in what we do.
We are grateful for your membership. If you know of location managers who aren't
members—talk to them, encourage them to apply. There is strength in numbers. Now is
the moment to bring the next generation into the fold. Never has there been a time when
it's more to our benefit to stand in unity and take pride in our contributions to television,
film and other media.
