B M & T ••• March/April 2018 ••• www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com 23 Conference will be major for Greater Fort Lauderdale and neighboring cities, as it will impact our communi- ties from a law enforcement perspec- tive," notes Tucker. "NOBLE has worked with the sheriff's office, super- intendent of schools, Urban League and 100 Black Men to develop a sys- tem that has reduced the pipeline to prison population, giving young peo- ple an alternative. Communities are implementing this and NOBLE can highlight our region as an area that is getting it right. Through this confer- ence, other destinations can see the progress made and follow suit." NOBLE is a professional organiza- tion of more than 3,000 members pri- marily Police Chief Executives and other heads of Law Enforcement Agencies at the Federal, State, County and Municipal levels. Their mission, goals and objectives are toward building better relationships between the Law Enforcement Community and citizens in communi- ties throughout the nation. Prior to major events such as NOBLE's Annual Conference com- ing to town, Tucker's focus is to make sure that the community knows who and what the organiza- tions are and why they exist; once a quarter, he holds a breakfast or lunch meeting to update them. Periodically, he'll do a radio spot or other social event to make sure that the community knows what's happening and who are scheduled to come into town. Tucker also reaches out specifically to busi- nesses of color, helping to prepare them for the opportunities that arise as the community prepares to receive the influx of tourism that will come through town. "In the past this information was shared via the GFL website, however, it has proven more successful to do engagements and hands-on train- ing so that the businesses are ready for our tourists" says Tucker. Another exciting project that the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB has taken on includes the preparations for welcoming the American Tennis Association ("ATA") to Broward County as they have agreed to make it their new home. The ATEF (American Tennis & Education Foundation) plans to develop, oper- ate and maintain a national tennis center, a tennis hall of fame and museum along with support facili- ties on an 8-acre parcel of Miramar Regional Park, as well as a hotel on an additional 4 acres to support training and tournaments. The proposed tennis center will be home to nationally renowned tennis tournaments and a tennis training program. Greater Fort Lauderdale Broward County Convention Center
