Adrian Bridge, CEO of the Fladgate Partnership, left formalities���and Manhattan��� behind as he met THE TASTING PANEL in a Starbucks in Astoria, Queens, for a presentation of the Yeatman, the luxury wine-themed hotel in Oporto owned by the partnership. Ever the statesman, Bridge had a bottle of Fonseca Bin 27 and 10 Year Graham���s Tawny at the ready for an impromptu tasting in Starbucks��� inest cups. Espor��o winemaker David Balderstock and chef Miguel Vaz dropped in on the Lower East Side kitchen of Hearth, where chef Marco Canora served up a young suckling pig feast. Chef Vaz donned his kitchen whites and added his own Portuguese twist: a pork terrine. Bodega Lagarde���s Sebastian Barboza made the rounds in style while rolling out a new partnership with Opici Wines, the new distributor for the Mendoza winery. One of Argentina���s oldest and most traditional wineries (circa 1897), Lagarde is introducing its higher-end wines in the New York market, including the Primeras Vi��as (SRP $49), a 2009 Malbec made from vines dating to 1906. ���Tis the season for hearty wine pairings! Winemakers from Chinon, known as the ���pork capital of France,��� were uniquely positioned to promote their juice with a juicy suckling pig dinner. Traveling from the Loire Valley, Anne-Charlotte Genet of Charles Jouguet winery hosted a tailto-snout dinner at The Breslin, showcasing wines from four producers from the appellation. While celebrating Chinon���s impeccable pairing with Anne-Charlotte Genet. pork, the dinner also paid tribute to native son, epicurean writer Fran��ois Rabelais.
