96 { THE SOMM JOURNAL } DECEMBER/JANUARY 2017/2018 Nomacorc's all-natural, sugarcane-based PlantCorc closures are currently outgrowing all other wine-closure categories—including screwcaps and cork-based closures—in terms of absolute growth in units. IN JANUARY 2015, engineered-cork producer Nomacorc (founded in 1999 by entrepreneur Marc Noël) joined Vinventions, currently the world's most comprehen- sive provider of complete wine closure solutions. The Nomacorc brand proudly took its place alongside Vinventions' other leading closure technologies: Ohlinger natural corks, Vintop screwcaps, Syntek synthetic corks, and Vinoseal glass closures. These cutting-edge brands, along with the company's Wine Quality Solutions divi- sion and Wine Marketing Solutions service brands, make Vinventions a "House of 7 Brands" that offers something for everyone in the global wine industry. Reflecting this fact, Vinventions rebranded late in 2017 with a new logo that consolidated its various brands and services under one global umbrella. While Vinventions has seven production facilities globally for its different brands, the Nomacorc brand is manufactured at three: one in Belgium, filling demand in the European market; one in the small town of Zebulon in North Carolina's tech-rich Research Triangle, where the company's U.S. headquarters supports the wine industry in North America; and one in Argentina, serving the South American markets.
