Two singers, a baritone and a mezzo- soprano, shared the role of Hannah ('Hannah before' and 'Hannah after') in an intimate chamber opera, featuring the Hausmann Quartet. Also: San Diego Opera (partnering with the University of Texas at Austin and Fort Worth Opera) has recently com- missioned composer Gabriela Lena Frank and playwright Nilo Cruz to compose a new Spanish- language opera based on Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two icons of the early 20th-century art world, entitled The Last Dream of Frida and Diego. The new production will make its debut in 2020. This is exciting stuff! Theme Park, Theater & Broadcast Television News In November, San Diego Opera presented a new production, As One, at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre, as part of its 'detour' series. While transgender issues are in the news, As One explored the subject of 'what it means to be a transgendered woman' as one human being's personal and emotional story—with a beautiful score (music by Laura Kiminsky), and illu- For the first time in forever … The Coalition of Resort Labor Unions (CRLU) we founded last year, initially to address the company's proposed overhaul to its Resort-wide Attendance Policy—has now become a strong, vibrant and constructive partnership between eleven (11!) of the labor unions, locals and associations that represent the majority We currently have fiy- seven (57!) IATSE shows and Yellow Card aractions tour- ing across the United States; this surpasses anything that we have seen in the past decade! Our Tim Bohle is wrapping up a successful run of Mahew Bourne's The Red Shoes in New York City, Kaitlin McCoy is out with a new company of Jersey Boys, Robin Lee is tour- ing with Disney's The Lile Mermaid, Yolanda Pollock is doing a two-month stint with Irving Berlin's White Christmas, and on and on … All of these shows pro- vide excellent wages and benefits for many of our 40 Pink Contract members, not to mention all of the local hires who work these shows throughout our jurisdiction!
