www.postmagazine.com 4 POST JULY 2017 BITS & PIECES CREW CUTS COMPLETES FLAVOR-FILLED SPOT FOR PERRIER NEW YORK CITY — Crew Cuts (www.crewcuts.com) recently edited a col- orful new spot for Nestle Waters North America that promotes their Perrier brand's zero-calorie, fruit-flavored water. Conceived by Ogilvy & Mather, the 1:27 commercial debuted online on June 6th and features the Portugal- based illustrator/street artist AKA Corleone, who is inspired by Perrier Flavors to add his artistic touch to the exterior paint job of a large house. Irresistible Films produced the project, with Luke Janin directing and Matt Nelson serving as EP. Crew Cuts' editor Gabriel De La Mora put the piece together, showing how the artist's initial concepts and drawings were ultimately transferred to the larger workspace, all while having fun and enjoying the flavored drink. The project was shot on an Arri Amira and edited in Adobe Premiere. Amar Lal handled sound design. The conform and composite was performed by Dulany Foster IV and Delaney Porter. Nice Shoe's Chris Ryan served as colorist on the project and Ben Willis as assistant editor. STARZ'S AMERICAN GODS EMPLOYS DELUXE'S CLOUD SERVICE LOS ANGELES — Starz's original series American Gods adapts author Neil Gaiman's novel into a feast of visceral imagery. Developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, and produced by FremantleMedia North America, the project features extensive visual effects, which were facilitated via The Portal, Deluxe's cloud-based proprietary service. The Portal simplifies ingest and automates distribution of original camera plates to VFX vendors, dramatically reducing post produc- tion turnaround times. The Portal was part of overall post production services that included color grading at Company 3, conform at Deluxe's Encore and dailies via Deluxe Toronto. The series consists of eight one-hour episodes and began airing in late April. Available from a Web browser, The Portal allows VFX vendors to securely access files instantly, once the VFX editor submits EDLs, a capability that is becoming increas- ingly valuable as VFX for television productions grow increasingly so- phisticated and involve multiple VFX companies worldwide. Familiar with The Portal's capabil- ities from using it on a feature film project, American Gods VFX editor Shannon Leigh Olds looked to de- ploy it on a television series. Deluxe worked with each VFX vendor to establish desired file sizes, formats and color spaces, and secured IP information for delivering materials. Individual profiles were created so that shot selections submitted by the VFX editor automatically would be set to appear in the preferred format for each respective vendor. In addition to simplifying work- flow, Deluxe's creative and technical expertise enabled the show to achieve its dark and unique ultra-realistic look. Company 3 colorist Dave Hussey worked closely with executive produc- er David Slade and the Company 3 color science team to replicate Slade's vision — complex color references that were essentially unachievable through traditional methods; develop- ing a custom show node that pushed on dynamic range aspects and in- corporated variation in texture, grain, sharpness and LUT combinations that Hussey, Slade and EPs Bryan Fuller and Michael Green then refined. BURLINGTON, MA — Avid (avid.com) has released new software for its NEXIS storage platform. The latest release delivers greater bandwidth for fast, reliable workflows and support for Avid Pro Tools to optimize profes- sional audio production workflows. New high-performance stor- age groups (HSPGs) deliver up to 28.8GB/s of bandwidth in a single Avid NEXIS system, providing the throughput needed to handle full-res- olution media for online editing work- flows. For smaller environments, Avid NEXIS|Pro professional-class storage provides collaborative capabilities while also delivering realtime 4K per- formance at up to 2.4GB/s. NEXIS and NEXIS|Pro also provide realtime cre- ative team collaboration for workflows employing non-Avid brand editorial and creative tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Apple Final Cut Pro X and DaVinci Resolve. Pro Tools is now qualified on Avid NEXIS, enabling audio creative teams to leverage the powerful media storage environment. With Pro Tools combined with Avid NEXIS, users can now share projects on a centralized pool of media storage. In the case of high-performance storage groups, each media pack is capable of data rates up to 50 percent faster at 600MB/s. Scalability enhancements double the capacity of Avid NEXIS|Enterprise systems to support up to 48 media packs across a single scale-out networked system. Customers can mix and match a com- bination of Avid NEXIS|E5, E4 and/ or E2 engines, providing nearly 3PBs of storage capacity and 28GB/s of high-performance bandwidth.
