AEA Professional Development Series AEA's Quality Teaching and Learning department is working with local associations to offer the following professional development opportunities at the AEA Headquarters in Phoenix. Teacher Evaluations and Common Core from the State Board of Education's Perspective More education policy than ever has been passed by the Arizona Legislature in the past three years. Once it becomes law, the Arizona State Board of Education is charged with implementing the details. Come hear from the Executive Director for the State Board of Education about the new teacher evaluation system requirements and implementation of the Common Core. There will be time for Q/A on any education policy or certification questions. Preparing for Retirement: Everything you need to know about your public pension If retirement is in your near future, or you are simply interested in learning more about how your pension works and what benefits you'll have when you get to the "magic number," then this session is for you. Participants will leave with important information about the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) brought to you by our own resident experts. 2013 Legislative Session Preview—What will the Arizona Legislature be up to next? National Board Certification Process Aspiring to be among the best in your profession? Come learn about the process to become a National Board Certified Teacher and what financial scholarships are available to help you in the endeavor. Many districts now offer a significant stipend to those who achieve National Board Certification. Getting Value and Saving Money: Learn about your Member Benefits The NEA and AEA offer many member benefits programs that allow our members to save big. Come learn about a variety of different programs that will save you money. Our expert from NEA Member Benefits will present this informative session. Dealing with Difficult Parents Ever been at your wits end dealing with a problem parent? Come learn how to handle these difficult situations so that your sanity stays in place this school year. Grant Money for your Classroom and Students Tired of using your own money to furnish your classroom needs? The NEA and AEA offer different grant programs to our members that too often goes completely unused. Come learn about these different grant opportunities as well as other national, state and local grants that can easily be applied for and won.
