60 SAG-AFTRA | Spring 2017 | SAGAFTRA.org On Location Portland GRIMM WRAPS SIX SEASONS IN PORTLAND N BC's Grimm wrapped after six successful seasons shooting in Portland and other parts of Oregon. The series employed many Oregon performers, with other members coming in from all over the United States. Over the last six years and 123 episodes, Grimm has spent more than $300 million in Oregon, providing jobs for more than 300 people per year, including many local actors in recurring featured roles. Member Robert Blanche, who played Sgt. Franco, points out that the show spent nearly $30 million in labor costs each year. Several of the show's leads bought homes in Oregon, their children were born here and many are active in area nonprofit charities. National Board member Mary McDonald-Lewis had a recurring role as Frau Pech on the show, and said, "All of us are going to miss Grimm. The cast, the crew, production is a big family, and the series had a powerful impact on quality of life in Portland." LEND ME AN EAR LUCKY 13 T he Atlanta Union Radio Players hit the jackpot this year with Lend Me an Ear Lucky 13 on Oct. 24 in celebration of their 13th fundraiser for the Atlanta Community Food Bank. With a diverse cast of 45 union members onstage — including "appearances" by Red Skelton, Ozzie and Harriet, Our Miss Brooks and Groucho and Chico — they left 'em laughing. But it was no laughing matter that they successfully raised $3,775, which translated into nearly $34,000 in "buying power" for the ACFB. That's about $9 for every $1 donated. Many thanks to everyone involved in putting the show together: the actors, the crew, the New American Shakespeare Tavern and all the volunteers. With a local radio interview and additional news coverage on WSB-TV, the word was spread about a group of local performers giving back to their community annually. The event is always just in time for the holiday season, but that giving and fun- loving spirit still stays with us throughout the year.
