SPIRITS New Amsterdam Red Berry Vodka, USA ($15) With its sweet tart raspberry nose, it's a nice surprise that there is nothing cloying on the palate. Instead, it's a smooth entry for the red fruit notes with a slightly spiced middle. Finishes clean and dry with a touch of white pepper. 88 GALLO FAIR. Vodka, France ($33) A quirky, nutty nose and sweet caramel entry maps out a special spirit with a unique quinoa base. The steady weight glides along with a hint of green olive and a spiced vanilla, buttered fi nish. Unfi ltered. 92 FAIR SPIRITS COMPANY Mariposa Agave Nectar Liqueur ($25) When I pick up patchouli, it's usually a good thing. The nose possesses a dash of this aromatic herb, and backed it up with a touch of evergreen. I was impressed. On the palate, a raring-to-go ginger note embraces fl oral jasmine and comes together quite nicely with the fi nish of honeyed agave. 94 HEAVEN HILL YOUR CUSTOMER'S TASTEBUDS WILL THANK YOU. Lexington Kentucky Bourbon, USA ($30) The gorgeous horse on the label may or may not have infl uenced my nosing of well-worn saddle leather on the nose, but these wonderful aromas are accompanied by brandied peaches and baked apples with under-pinnings of oranges and marzipan. Decidedly bold on fi rst sip, the warmth spreads as the velvet hammer opens up to nougats and nectarines. A resiny back leads to a subtle, memorable fi nish of mocha and coffee bean. 95 WESTERN SPIRITS Available through your distributor or at riedelop.com. Grape varietal specific shapes; starting at $5.95 per glass. XL Pinot Noir Glass Height: 9" Capacity: 30 oz.
