As member of the CTA Political Action Committee, I have helped efforts to pass several bond and capital override elections to fund public education. I completed the NEA Teacher Leadership Institute and collaboratively composed a report influencing education policy http://vivateachers.org/wp-content/ uploads/2015/02/VIVA-NEA-3602.pdf which was shared with the NEA Accountability Task Force and disseminated at NEA-RA. As panelist I promoted teacher voice at the Network for Public Education (NPE) Conference in Chicago. I have worked on several projects with NEA to assure that decisions are made by educators for educators and to support teachers new to the profession. I serve on the AEA Social Justice Task Force, AZ ASCD Advocacy Committee, and as CTA Secretary. Through AEA and NPE I work on campaigns to thwart any attempts to privatize schools and to adequately fund and democratically-govern public schools. As English Second Language speaker and immigrant, I represent a vast number of students and I belief empowering educators leads to empowering students.
