Fort Worth has a proud place among America's most progressive destinations. Each year, diverse communities come together for multicultural events that cel- ebrate the cities rich heritage. Also there are galleries and museums representing the gradual architecture of the city over the years of its existence and how multi- ple cultures played a role in this transfor- mation. One of the foremost African-American theaters in the Southwest, Jubilee Theatre presents Musical, Drama and Comedy works live on stage which reflect the African-American Experience. An inti- mate setting with seating capacity of 149 patrons, its atmosphere and audience is diverse, comfortable and accommodat- ing. The African American Museum Of Dallas was founded in 1974 as a part of the Special Collections at Bishop College, a historically Black college that closed in 1988. The Museum has operat- ed independently since 1979. The African American Museum is the only one of its kind in the Southwestern Region devoted to the preservation and display of African American artistic, cultural and historical materials. While exploring Ft. Worth make sure to visit the Stop Six Historic African- American Neighborhood. This working- class predominantly Black neighborhood, once the sixth stop on the Northern Texas Traction Company line running between Dallas and Fort Worth, was orig- inally known as Cowanville. Throughout the neighborhood visitors will be able to see early-20th-century architecture. Downtown Fort Worth is only 17.5 miles from the fourth-busiest airport in the world, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the best gateway into the Americas.
