Winter 2017 The Costume Designer 59 As the creative energy for the Women's March was brewing, CD Stacy Ellen Rich decided to create patches to give away on the day. Rich's inspiration: women groundbreakers and floor shakers. Rich made the crucial point to include intersec- tional feminism and created seven images with ink and paper mixed with archival photos. During the march, Rich says, "One person asked for a patch and then another and another! All of the sudden, there was a crowd of people around me. It was ex- hilarating to share mementos for people to take away with them on this momentous day. Let's keep it going!" She lucked out with a cast that included four native Japanese actors with backgrounds in classical Japanese performing arts, who were incredibly generous with stories, pho- tos, books, and the finer points of tying obis.
