Paso Hospitality H eather Lane's promotion from Tasting Room Manager to Hospitality Director at Paso Robles winery Niner Wine Estates, not only recognizes her for providing thoughtful leadership to the Niner executive team, but also acknowledges the need for the position as the winery expands its hospitality services available to guests. "Our goal is to develop our hospitality center into one of the best visitor centers available to wine-lovers in the state of California, period," says owner Richard Niner. Lane is recognized for building a chef-taught cooking school program where guests learn a variety of culinary techniques in a one-day class. The individual classes vary in focus—from trips to the farmers markets, to butchering a whole lamb, to marrying the fl avors of Indian and Thai cuisine—but all have a common theme of providing guests with a unique, hands-on learning experience in the world of food and wine. In addition, Lane and her staff host unique industry events and seasonal wine education classes, including the recent "Olfactory Analysis of Wine" class taught by French perfumer Alexandre Schmitt (see page 96).
