On Thursday, November 3, 2016, the Gene Autry Museum of the American West hosted A Night with Luster Bayless,
a tribute to his long career in western filmmaking as Costume Designer and owner of United American Costume
Company. Opening with live music and mingling, the event included a moderated panel of colleagues touting Bayless'
good humor, professional generosity, and passion for filmmaking, as well as a heartfelt tribute from actor Sam Elliott,
and a moving portrait of Bayless from his daughter Diana Foster.
Acclaimed for his work on eleven features with John Wayne, including True Grit, another western Bayless consid-
ers special was Tom Horn, starring Steve McQueen, because "It was REAL." Knowing he was sick at the time, McQueen
pushed himself to the limit, while Bayless pushed to keep him warm in his layered shirts and iconic sheepskin coat.
