NEA and AEA also have worked with the
broad-based coalition One Arizona to register
Arizonans to vote. More than 150,000 new
Arizona voters — the vast majority of whom are
Latino voters — will cast their ballots for the first
time this election. Many political pundits credit
the new voter registration work of One Arizona
to the changing political landscape and Arizona's
toss-up status in Election 2016.
Eskelsen García's visit to Mitchell Elementary
was part of the NEA President's travel through
key battleground states like Arizona, leading
up to the General Election to support AEA
members' election campaign work. The get-out-
the-vote swing highlighted congressional races
plus propositions and amendments on the ballot
affecting students and working families.
