www.postmagazine.com 44 POST NOVEMBER 2016 the palm of our hand. Kathleen Maher (Kathleen@jonpeddie. com) is a contributing editor to CGW, a senior analyst at Jon Peddie Research, a Tiburon, CA-based consultancy specializ- ing in graphics and multimedia, and editor in chief of JPR's "TechWatch." PORTLAND, OR — Svalt (svalt.com) has released the D2 high-performance cooling dock, a powerful, desktop-sized fan that drives cooling air directly onto laptop processors to help overcome heat-induced throttling and maintain peak performance while under heavy and sustained workloads. The Svalt D2 uses a laptop tem- perature sensor and automatic speed control to provide simple set-it-and-forget-it operation that intelligently delivers silent to overwhelming cooling power over the course of the workday. Svalt is a variation of the French word "svelte," meaning graceful and elegant, and the Swedish word "sval," mean- ing elegant and cool. The D2 is geared toward designers, photographers, videogra- phers, 3D/VR modelers, gamers and researchers. In CPU testing, the D2 helped to eliminate heat induced throttling and maintain maximum performance with a 154 percent higher Turbo Boost speed and 21 percent higher Geekbench Score. In GPU testing the D2 increased graphic performance with 97 percent higher graphics power and 30 percent faster frames per second performance. The cooling system runs in auto mode by default, with fan speeds automatically adjusting from 900- to 3,600rpm based on laptop temperatures. When tem- peratures are low enough, the fan stops until temperatures increase. There are also advanced and customizable modes available. The D2 was designed for Apple Retina MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Razer Blade laptops to run in closed-screen clamshell mode configuration to provide optimized performance with one or more high-resolution displays, and improved workstation ergonomics with full sized keyboard, mouse and other workstation accessories. Pricing is $295. SVALT INTRODUCES D2 COOLING DOCK Market share of workstation suppliers in Q2 2016.
