Planted with 49 acres of Chardonnay and 38 acres of Pinot Noir, the vineyard's oldest vines are own- rooted, reducing their yields significantly but adding great complexity and concen - tration. The shallow soil is composed of loam and calcareous clay. As the old vines give out, they're being replaced with Dijon clones and California heirlooms to supple - ment the original Wädenswil selections. Monte Sereno Vineyard Planted in 2006, these three acres of Chardonnay produce wine with a slightly softer approach on the palate than Talley's other vineyards. It is bottled as part of the Estate Chardonnay, as well as the limited single-vineyard bottling sold only in the tasting room. Las Ventanas Vineyard These four acres on the floor of the Arroyo Grande Valley, and across the street from the winery, are planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Grapes from these young vines are used primarily for the Bishop's Peak program. Stone Corral Planted in the Edna Valley AVA in 2001, this 27-acre Pinot Noir vineyard is a few miles from the Talley winery. The diverse clonal selection emphasizes the Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777, with a massale selection of cuttings from Rosemary's Vineyard. Stone Corral is divided into five blocks, with each divided into thirds and shared equally by Talley Vineyards, Stephen Ross Wines and Kynsi Winery. Each pro - ducer gets fruit from the same block year after year, offering a unique opportunity to taste three separate winemakers' approaches to the site's specific attributes, combined with the vintage variations. Oliver's Vineyard Named after the founder Oliver Talley, Brian's grandfather, this 36-acre vineyard in the Edna Valley was planted to Chardonnay in 1991. In 2006, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling were added to the mix.
