NEW JERSEY…. "ALWAYS TURNED ON" … FOR BUSINESS AND PLEASURE ! BY CYNTHIA MOLUSK Is it the abundance of flexible meet- ing spaces ranging from 500,000 to just a few dozen sq. ft. ? Is it the beach and Boardwalk? The exceptionally comfort- able hotels? The unmatched food and drink choices? The endless entertain- ment options? Let's just go with "all of the above" when asked to explain why Atlantic City should be one of the top convention cities on your list. With event venues galo re and more than enough attractions, activities and enter- tainment to keep attendees busy, AC should be a destination meeting plan- ners wont be able resist. The Atlantic City Convention Center is the largest convention center in New Jersey. This venue is equipped with 600,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, 29 loading docks, 5 spacious exhibit halls and 45 meeting rooms. The convention center is committed to preserving its unique seaside environment while pro- viding a safe, h ealthy atmosphere for guests. "Going Green" has consistent- ly been one of the Center's main oper- ating objectives. Several initiatives have already been implemented throughout the facility while others are in the works. When it comes time to turn in for the night (or perhaps the morning, depend- ing on whether or not you hit up Atlantic City's hottest nightlife spots), you'll find some superb choices. It may come as no surprise that some of Atlantic City's greatest draws a re its casinos. Atlantic City gaming action comes in virtually every variety. Take a seat at a high-stakes poker table or play the penny slots if that's your thing – there's something fun for every- one on the Boardwalk casinos. Atlantic City hotels and resorts offer casino gaming-action, amazing views, fine din- ing and luxurious lodging all under one roof, while bed and breakfasts provide space to recharge and chain hotel rooms offer the most bang for your budget. "Alway s Turned On," Atlantic City acknowledges its rich African-American his- tory via museums, restau- rants and historical land- marks. Conference atten- dees are encouraged to explore some of these sites. New Jersey's only African American Heritage Museum documents the African- American experience of the 20th century. Over 11,000 treasures showcased on a rotating basis, updated every month. The Museum also holds a collection of Atlantic County soldiers' memorabilia from World War I to present at the All Wars Memorial Building in Atlantic City. The Civil Rights Garden is a tranquil public sculpture gar- den comprised of 11 granite columns, winding pathways, plants, flowers, Gingko trees and sculptures with inscrip- tions related to the history, events and people of the Civil Rights movement. Atlantic City is increasing- ly becoming known for its thriving culinary scene with some of the top chefs in the industry opening restaurants there alongside other nationally acclaimed locales. The city offers an interesting dichotomy with trendy, eclectic establishments rising alongside home-style 'mom and pop" locales, classic Boardwalk cuisine and many other fine eateries. Getting to Atlantic City is a breeze, thanks to the convenient Atlantic City International Airport (ACY). Located just 12 minutes from downtown Atlantic City and serviced by ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines, Air Canada, and Choice Aire, ACY serves more than 1 million passengers per year on thousands of flights to Atlantic City.
