8 The Costume Designer Summer 2016 I really love our new tradition of featuring an illustration for the cover of our summer magazine. It's wonderful to give an illustrator an opportunity to showcase their work. Keith's beautiful illustration is a shining example of the artistry of our illustrators. Illustrator Aasha Ramdeen wrote a wonderful article on custom printing fabric. As technology progresses, the tools available to Costume Designers expand our horizons, and we should be at the forefront of technology and incorporate it into our work. Technology can be a great tool for us, includ- ing apps for your smartphone and tablet. The article on the best apps for costume design should be added to your reading list. With the summer hiatus over, it's a busy TV season here in Los Angeles. With so many new pro- ductions now back here in LA, many shows have been having a hard time crewing up. If you need day player help for prep, shopping, fitting, etc., you can always hire an ACD to help. It also helps your fellow CDG members earn some hours. If anyone tells you they can't hire an ACD to day play, please contact the CDG office and we will clear up this misconception. I want to remind the members that our CDG library is still alive and thriving at the Universal Costume Department. All CDG members still have access to the library for free. Just call Universal at (818) 777-2722 for a drive on. If you need to downsize your home library, you can donate your col- lection to the CDG library. The Emmy nominations are out and we want to congratulate all the nominees. We look forward to celebrating with you in September. I want to commend the TV Academy Governors, Terry Gordon and Sue Bub, for all their hard work in revitalizing the costume category of the Emmys. The CDG Executive Board elections are in full swing. It has been my great honor to serve with this Board. We have accomplished so much and are excited about the future of our organization. I have decided to run for another term. I am proud of the work this Board has done, and there is more work we would like to do. I am happy so many Board members are running again, and I look forward to new voices on the Board. Working together, we are a stronger union. In solidarity, Salvador Perez sperez@cdgia.com PRESIDENT'S LETTER UNION LABEL "The most exciting part of being a Costume Designer lies in the anthropology of dress and adornment. I'm inspired by the intersection of the aesthetic with storytelling… " –Hala Bahmet The People v. O.J. Simpson
