B M & T ••• March/April 2016 ••• www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com 41 THE BEAUTY OF THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS H ome to the Carib and Taíno Indian tribes for an estimated 3,000 years prior to Christopher Columbus setting foot in 1493, the U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) are today a colorful fusion of distinctive cultures of African descent. Located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and comprised of some 50 islands and cays (pronounced "keys"), the USVI offers stunning beaches, adventurous outdoor sports, bountiful shopping, rich historic sites, and popular annual events. Another big plus for this piece of paradise is the fact that no passport is needed. Following is a little peak of what's in store for visitors to the main islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John. BY MATTHEW THOMAS
