A Subsidiary of www.postmagazine.com February 2010 • Post 21 cludes 17- and 24-inch models, and uses next-generation LCD panels that maintain accurate color reproduction at wide viewing angles. The line has a host of new features, including a built-in waveform/vectorscope, 3G and dual-link HD-SDI capability, digital closed captioning functionality and VITC/LTC timecode. JVC's 10-bit 4:4:4 1080p processing ensures high picture qual- ity. The monitors are equipped with tradi- tional rotary knobs that control picture and sound, and a range of digital and analog in- puts and outputs. At the CES show in Januar y, JVC demonstrated a number of 3D display solutions. In the company's 4K front pro- jection theater JVC showed 3D content in full 4K resolution (equal to four times that of HD) using a pair of JVC DLA- RS4000 4K projectors. The company also showed several GD- 463D10 46-inch LCD monitors featuring Xpol technology for flicker-free stereo- scopic images when viewed with inexpen- sive (passive) glasses. And launched at the show was the IF- 2D3D1 stereoscopic processor, which con- verts 2D video to 3D in realtime. The unit ac- cepts a standard HDMI or HDSDI input in HD and provides stereo output in a variety of formats, including sequential, side-by-side, line-by-line, checkerboard, anaglyph, or sepa- rate L/R signals. The processor was demon- strated in conjunction with the GD-463D10 monitor. In addition, the processor can also accept discrete L/R signals from a stereo- scopic camera rig and convert the signals to a standard that can be displayed on the GD- 463D10 monitor. This would be useful for 3D production crews. 3 D F I L M FAC TO RY 3D Film Factor y (www.3DFilmFactor y. com) is offering a new professional 3D stereoscopic system that allows users to view realtime 3D images. The 3D Master monitor is a lightweight, linear polarized sys- tem that's designed for use with professional and broadcast cameras. The unit has a diagonal screen size of 10.4-inches and uses two high-resolution (1,024x768) LCD monitors and one beam- splitter mirror to create linear polarized ac- curate 3D images. The configuration main- tains the original LCD resolution while pro- viding a flicker-free picture. In addition, it can be powered in the field with a 12V battery. "Right now, there's just a few professional 3D field monitors available and they're very expensive," notes 3D Film Factory president Karl Kozak. "We set out to create an easy- to-use, accurate 3D viewing system that of- fered excellent image quality, affordability and durability. We use everything we sell, so it had to be a great product that could be relied upon in the field." The screen is switchable from 2D to 3D At CES, JVC displayed the GD-463D10, a 46-inch monitor for stereoscopic viewing. continued on page 38
