products Sorenson improves encoder/ transcoder SAN DIEGO — Sorenson's Squeeze V.8.5 is three times faster than previous versions of the transcoding and encoding app. This version is optimized for each of the major output for- mats, including MP4, QuickTime (MOV), WebM and Matroska (MKV). Parallel process- ing now drives the Squeeze engine. A significant re-archi- tecture enables the apps to systemati- cally break decod- ed, compressed video files into sep- arate content chunks and partition them simultaneously across multiple CPUs for process- ing. Sorenson col- laborated with Intel engineers to opti- mize Squeeze 8.5 for Intel's Quick Sync platform and codec, including optimization for Intel's Second Gen- eration (Sandy Bridge) and Third Generation (Ivy Bridge) procs on Windows machines. CPU Control allows users to devote up to 100 percent of the their system resources to a particular encode. Squeeze 8.5 and 8.5 Pro are available for $799 and $999, respectively, and as a free upgrade for Squeeze 8 users. 40 Post • June 2012 www.postmagazine.com AlterMedia updates studio management software B URBANK — AlterMedia was at NAB with the newest version of its studio manage- ment software, the all-new Studio Suite X (www.studiosuite.com).
