For those of you who do not attend the meetings, here are a few reasons you should: 1. It is an obligation of membership as outlined in our Constitution. 2. It is a great opportunity to catch up with other members. 3. There is important information shared. Many wonder why attendance has been made obligatory in the Constitution. The General Membership Meeting is a time when members come together to structure the way their union is gov- erned and run. It is an opportunity to bring issues to the floor that are pertinent to all members. It is a time to hear where we are headed as a labor union and to learn about educational resources. Members also discuss work issues and trends that concern them. At the June General Membership Meeting, we will be nominating members for all elected positions in the Guild. This is a time to participate in the way your union is run and the issues we will concentrate on for the next three years. The actual election will take place this summer, but this is our version of the conventions soon to be held by the Democrats and Republicans for the US general election. On the subject of the general election, please register to vote by mail. That will assure that your vote will count and you won't be caught short if you work late or are out of town on a job. No election in recent history has been as important as this one. The IATSE has endorsed Hillary Clinton. We will be phone banking and precinct walking this summer and early fall. Watch for notices from our office regarding ways to get involved. I also need members to involve themselves in our union politics. I need one or two members to volunteer for the Election Committee. If you call the office, I can explain what this commitment would involve. I encourage all that are eligible to run for office to consider it. This is a great way to participate in shaping the Guild's future. In solidarity, Rachael Stanley rstanley@cdgia.com
