Delux spots 'Weather' sun and storms holds up in any kind of weather. Directed by Melanie Bridge, Weather has a stop motion feel, but is actually made possible through a combination of handcrafted animation and quirky CG. Bits & Pieces A Agency Clemenger BBDO in Wellington con- ceived the spot, in which a series of still images make their way around a white, country-styled house. As the camera moves, paint splashes create a scene on each of the home's exterior walls. The scenes suggest snow, sun, rain and wind using dif- ferent colors and patterns. Glen Atkin supervised visual effects, which were handled by Digi Post. "Prior to the shoot we measured the entire building and built a 3D replica in Maya," he explains. "This enabled us to get a precise 3D camera and virtual scene that we used to cre- ate an animatic." After the shoot, the studio tracked the real-world cam- era moves and combined it with their model to create a replica of the entire move and scene. Animation and compositing were done in After Effects. itself was relatively straight forward once we had the neces- sary tracking data. The difficult part was settling on an overall design aesthetic that worked with the timelapse camera move and the house itself as a canvas." UCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — The Sweet Shop (www.thesweetshop.tv), here, produced a new spot for Delux paint that shows how the product "From here, camera data and scene locators were exported to After Effects, where most of the animation and compositing happened," notes Atkin. "More complex ele- ments were created in Maya and Realflow. The animation LA's Ntropic (www.ntropic.com), which opened a NYC office last year, concepted, produced, designed, created effects and handled color for a visually stylized Olay campaign. The studio worked with Saatchi/NY on the project, which includes :15 HD and SD versions of Think Again and Unprecedented Demand (shown). Ntropic's Nate Robinson and Steve Zourntos were the CDs/ directors. It was edited by Bernardo Revilla. Marshall Plante works on color and Zourntos performed Flame compositing. After Effects artists were Tico Jones and Tali Oliver. The spots were mixed at Heard in NYC.
