PRODUCTS: NAB 2016 PREVIEW www.postmagazine.com 44 POST MARCH 2016 DFT TO SHOW DEVELOPMENTS TO SCANITY HDR FILM SCANNER DARMSTADT, GERMANY — DFT (www.dft-film.com), provider of high-end film scanning solutions that preserve, manage, and deliver the pristine quality of film, will be announcing new technology developments for its latest Scanity HDR film scanner. This year, the company will feature its new wetgate system, specifically designed for Scanity HDR, which provides a realtime solution for ingest and management of difficult-to-solve historical film transfer issues, such as dust and scratch removal. The wetgate is intended for archive owners that require a scanner that's able to han- dle a range of problematic and historical- ly-aged film issues. DFT will be also be demonstrating its new 16mm/8mm small gauge film gate strategy, showing the optional 16plus lens gate assembly for its Scanity and new Scanity HDR models. DFT's Scanity HDR will be demon- strated with the latest Scanity software release. Scanity HDR offers a host of features that serve a variety of film scan- ning applications, including film archive scanning for mass digitization; EDL/con- form scanning; low resolution browsing for archiving and restoration; short-form commercials; and 4K UHD ready and digital intermediate scanning. Scanity HDR offers a touchless patented capstan drive lens gate assembly system that provides both automatic shrinkage compensation and gentle film handling while delivering image stability. New key features include a patented black and white HDR function and a new triple exposure — executed once — in realtime 2K or 4K data ingest. ADOBE TO PREVIEW NEW CREATIVE CLOUD TOOLS SAN JOSE, CA — At NAB 2016, Adobe (www.adobe.com) will be previewing the next set of updates for its Creative Cloud tools for video and audio, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Media Encoder, Prelude, Adobe Anywhere for video, Adobe Stock for video, mobile solutions including Adobe Premiere Clip, and Adobe Primetime for monetizing and delivering content. Adobe has added hundreds of features to its tools in the past year for video professionals, including comprehensive native format sup- port for UltraHD editing, continued color advancements and support for HDR workflows, more than 100,000 4K video assets to Adobe Stock available directly in Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, and popular new features like Remix for Audition CC. Adobe will also have customers and product experts presenting at NAB on their use of Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC and other tools, including a session with the post team from 20th Century Fox's Deadpool (April 19th, 4:15pm-5pm, S220). AJA TO UPDATE KONA AND IO PRODUCTS GRASS VALLEY, CA — AJA (www.aja.com) will make several important an- nouncements at this year's NAB show in Las Vegas, including updates to its Kona and Io products. At the April show, the company will have further announcements for the post production market related to future-proof- ing workflows. AJA will also show new developments in its lines of I/O devices, converters, recorders, routers and cameras that offer new ways of working, and how to simplify integration of new formats into customers' existing technology infrastructure. MAXON TO SHOWCASE LATEST CINEMA 4D SOFTWARE NEWBURY PARK, CA — Maxon (www.maxon.net), which is celebrating its 30th year anniversary at this year's NAB Show, will showcase its Cinema 4D software technology, spotlighting its Release 17 (R17). New features of the latest version of its 3D software that streamlines workflow for creative professionals working in broadcast, film and video, games, visualization, and interactive media will be demonstrated at the company's booth. These include new, expanded and completely reworked features such as the new Take System that provides complete and flexible scene handling to manage render layers and animation varia- tions; new Lens Distortion tools for improved motion tracking; and completely reworked Spline Tools for a more efficient workflow for manipulating points, lines, tangents and arcs. With virtual reality con- tent creation poised to enter the mainstream for enter- tainment, advertising and video games, Maxon will also show its new CV-VR Cam virtual reality plug-in for Cinema 4D that allows artists to create everyday VR video content across industries for YouTube and Facebook.
