6 Post • January 2010 www.postmagazine.com Bits & Pieces In London, Cut + Run's (www. cutandrun.tv) Andy McGraw used an Avid to edit :70, :30 and :10 versions of a spot for UK retailer John Lewis. The Feeling is driven by a folk arrangement of Guns & Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine," performed by Swedish band Taken by Trees. The agency was Adam and Eve and the spot was shot by Blink director Benito Montorio in real home environments and outdoors. Smart Post opens third surround stage B URBANK — Smar t Post Sound (www.smar tpostsound.com) re- cently opened its third film and television dubbing stage. Like its other two stages, the new stage is equipped with Penteo Surround technology for converting stereo recordings into 5.1 surround sound. Smar t Post has ADR and Foley stages, as well as editorial bays. The dubbing stages are outfitted with JBL surround monitoring. A stereo out- put from a Digidesign Pro Tools system can be run into the Penteo/RT box and then run back into six channels of Pro Tools to create a surround track. The Penteo 5.1 mix automatically snaps back to the original two- channel mix when presented in conventional stereo settings, so stereo compatibility is not an issue. Merge completes Jockey spot B ROOKLYN — Merge (www.mergegroup.com) colorist Jerome Thelia and photographer David McLain were called on by Jockey art director Eric Olson to create a new ending that matched the look and feel of an ex- isting broadcast spot originally shot on 35mm film in Prague. The team took a small crew and a crane on location to the wheat fields of Palouse, WA, and used their Red 4K camera for the shoot. Thelia relied on Assimilate's Scratch for color grading and visual effects (see picture). The spot was re-cut to accommodate a new end- ing, which included a visual effect light blast to transition into the wheat field. Paint and roto touch- ups were applied to the models and the wheat field. Olson says he was able to view a rough-cut of the spot on his iPhone the morning after the shoot.
