oy marks my third collaboration with the great David O. Russell, with whom I worked on Silver
Linings Playbook and American Hustle. Joy offered unique possibilities for me as the hair designer
and department head, as the film follows a family through its struggles and triumphs more than 30
years, focusing on a young entrepreneur who creates a business dynasty. Charting these characters'
progressions was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for my department and me, which included my
assistant department head, Tijen Osman; hair stylists Jerry Popolis, Patricia Grande, Rebecca Woodfork and
Stephan Bruno; colorist and stylist Kristen Barry and staff wig maker Dawn Dudley. In addition, renowned
wig makers Stacey Butterworth, Erwin Kupitz, Peter Owen and Victoria Wood created more than 30 incred
-
ible wigs for our main cast.
We had some remarkable, award-winning talent to work with. The ensemble included Jennifer Lawrence,
Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Édgar Ramírez, Isabella Rossellini, Dascha Polanco and Virginia Madsen.
