120 Years of AEA History, cont. from page 9 1949 AEA successfully lobbied for passage of the state's first fair dismissal law for teachers. 1953 Association had 5,000 members and dues were $14. 1968 Phoenix Union High School District Classroom Teachers Association successfully negotiated the first teacher contract in the state. 1985 Members vote to include education support personnel into active membership. 1989 AEA wins lawsuit in U.S. Supreme Court to protect state trust land's true value by challenging a state law that restricted royalties for the sale of minerals from state school trust lands to far below market value. 2009 AEA organizes state's largest education rally at the capitol with over 10,000 in attendance to protest nearly $1 billion in cuts to education funding by the state legislature.
