RITTWAGE President / CEO MAKING THE ROUNDS 30 AND OVER t's been a busy season for the Post team. Last month, I had the chance to catch up with the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus as it passed through New York — making a number of stops in regional parks and schools. My guide for the day was on-board engineer Bryce Quig-Hartman, who showed me the lot of pro audio and video tools — including Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools, Adobe Creative Cloud, musical instruments from Yamaha and Gibson, and a host of camer- as, lenses and other gear from Presenting Sponsor Canon USA. Keep on truckin'! Canon also teamed up again with filmmaker Ron Howard earlier this year for Canon's Project Imagination: The Trail- er consumer contest. Last month, they premiered their Hollywood short film, The Rusted, based on the winning trailer created for the contest. Howard, along with the film's stars Josh Hutcherson and Jena Malone (The Hunger Games), and the film's writer/director Kat Candler (Hellion) were in attendance at New York's AOL Studios to speak with the press and chat about their recent project. See full stories on both Canon events on pages 6 and 10. The 139 th AES Convention was also in town, taking up residence at New York's Javits Center from October 29th to Novem- ber 1st. Post's Marc Loftus checked out the show — coverage is at postmagazine.com. Coinciding with the AES Convention, DPA, Sound Devices and Lectrosonics co-sponsored the Sound Summit New York. I had a chance to check out the collabora- tive effort at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, taking in some best practices for the audio community (see page 11). Post hopes to bring you some of these quality tips in upcoming issues. Inside the pages of Post, the editorial team has been equally as active. Loftus offers an in-depth look at Blue Sky Studios' The Peanuts Movie (page 28) and, not to be ignored, is our cover story — Iain Blair's interview with director Francis Lawrence (page 20). Lionsgate's release of The Hun- ger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2, brings the billion-dollar franchise to a close. Lawrence tells Blair, "You want to go out in as epic and emotional way as possible." Cheers to a successful run! irst up: You may have noticed an ad- dition to the Post logo on our cover? We are now in our 30 th year and will be celebrating in the coming months. In fact, you can view photos from Post's recent 30th Anniversary Party in New York City on our Website. We've also got a ton of exclusive content at postmagazine.com. I interviewed John Harvatine IV at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (Robot Chicken) about the studio's work on a series of fun EA Sports Web shorts that tie in to the new Madden NFL 16 release. They were created in realtime using pup- pets, and Harvatine took time out to detail their workflow. To coincide with Post's "Restoration" fea- ture (p.34), we've got additional coverage of recent work done to preserve classics for future generations. Sony Pictures complet- ed a 4K restoration of Frank Capra's Acad- emy Award-winning 1938 romantic comedy You Can't Take It with You for upcoming Blu-ray release. Cinelicious contributed to the 4K restoration of the 1973 Japanese an- ime feature Belladonna of Sadness, which was never officially released in the US. And MTI Film completed work on the 1933 20th Century Fox drama The Power and the Glory, directed by William K. Howard and featuring a then 33-year-old Spencer Tracy. Visit our site for complete details on each. Also online, editor Barney Pilling talks about his work on the new women's rights film, Suffragette. And Linda Romanello connects with writer/director Angelo Pizzo, whose inspiring new football-themed film My All American recently opened in theaters. Dan Zimmerman cut the film and provides insight into the editing process. Linda also talks with editor Michael Kahn about his continued work with director Steven Spielberg, this time on the Tom Hanks-led film Bridge of Spies. And we've got a link to The Leviathan, a 3.5-minute sci-fi, proof-of-concept video created using Xsens mocap technology that's already attracted 1.2M+ Vimeo viewers. You can also read about my visit to NYC's Man Made Music, which opened an 8,000-sq.-ft. audio facility/lab, and has already completed jobs for IMAX and CBS.
