The OAACC was established in 2003. It is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to protect, represent and support the interests of the business community in Oakland. It does so by cre- ating a favorable business environment, supporting the development of business, and by promoting Oakland as a global business hub. Small Business Majority is a national small business advocacy organization, founded and run by small business own- ers to focus on the biggest problems fac- ing small firms today. "The Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce is delighted to partner with Small Business Majority. It is important for us to partner with organ- izations that will provide our members with important information and updates on laws that impact small businesses," said Spencer Gillette, president and CEO of the Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce. "We look for- ward to working with Small Business Majority to provide our members with even more critical information about the issues affecting them most, including healthcare, immigration reform, clean energy and more." Through Small Business Majority's strategic partnership program, which reaches more than 500,000 small busi- nesses nationwide, Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce members will be able to participate in a host of events, including "Business Leader Briefing" calls with high-level government officials and policy experts. They'll also have the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. to advocate on issues important to the small business community. "We're thrilled to have the Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce join our strategic part- nership program," said Mark Herbert project and outreach manager for Small Business Majority. "We look forward to working with the organiza- tion and its members to continue to make small business voices heard from the Main Streets of America to the corridors of Capitol Hill."
