THE FARNESE VINI WINE GROUP REDEFINES COOPERATIVE MODELS by Lana Bortolot Since the 16th century, the royal Farnese name in Italy has been synonymous with prestige and high culture. But it also stood for high standards in dining, as the wines produced by this Abruzzo family were served on banquet tables throughout Europe's courts and palaces. The royal name may be relegated to the history books, but some 450 years later, the Farnese name once again means wines of quality with the creation of Farnese Vini, a wine group formed under the leadership of president and CEO Valentino Sciotti, himself a son of Abruzzo who grew up in the vineyards. Since 1994, the company has worked with growers in Southern Italy, bringing in its own local teams of agronomists and enologists to oversee viti- and viniculture. Currently, Farnese manages vineyards and produces wines in five regions with a focus on Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia and Sicily.
