Dine 124  /  the tasting panel  /  november 2015 EVENT RECAP second annual Newport Beach Wine & Food Festival welcomed thousands of passionate gourmands to experience an extraordi- nary epicurean weekend, October 2–4, 2015. The beautiful and lush grounds of the Newport Beach Civic Center were the perfect place for Southern California foodies and wine connoisseurs. The festival featured live cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs, interactive wine panels with master somme- liers, mixology courses and live jazz. Sold out crowds sipped their way through an amazing line-up of 100 of American and Southern Wine & Spirits top brands and sampled food from 31 of Orange County's finest restaurants. The festival kicked off Friday evening with a launch party at Oak Grill and Aqua lounge, with world-renowned Chef Hubert Keller on the decks for a special DJ set, benefiting charity partner Project Hope Alliance. The following two days included daytime festivals with wine tasting panels led by Master Sommeliers, cooking demonstrations/pairings and mixology courses including industry experts Fred Dame, Stewart Prato and Tricia Carr of Southern Wine & Spirits. Guests had the opportunity to rub elbows with celebrity chefs such as Rick Bayless, Hubert Keller, Rick Moonen Jamie Gwen and Steve Kling. Spirit aficionados lounged in the Scotch House provided by Beam Suntory, took a virtual tour of the Patrón distillery and enjoyed hand-crafted cocktails with Absolut Elyx, Cruzan Rum, Duke Bourbon, Laphroaig Scotch and other high-end spirits. Dazzling chandeliers, plush furniture and beautiful Southern California weather pro- vided a luxurious setting to indulge in a weekend of tasting, sipping, learning and enjoying.
