Tantra for the West the philosophies of tantra. Throughout each chapter in concisely written, bold font, Allen offers affi rmations, observations and in- sights to immediately apply. Readers will be sure to dog-ear the pages relevant to them at whatever stage of life, as Allen encour- ages each individual to genuinely and personally use the book by diving in where relevant. It's not essential to read Tantra for the West sequentially, but it is highly recommended for the practical hope Allen imparts as he reminds readers, "When you ask the Universe for something, you will receive it—unless you're denying it on deeper levels of your being. Let it all come to you, easily and effortlessly. You deserve it. You're here to fulfi ll something wonderful in your life, some- thing you cherish in your heart. And now you are holding in your hands the tools to create whatever your heart desires." (New World Library) —Judy Tsuei Continued from page 32 MC Yogi O nly Love Is Real moves, grooves and pulses us through the stories of our modern world. In MC Yogi's latest and most exciting work we are enticed to taste the universal fl avors of loss, peace and love as the artist expresses his view through rap and melody. A fantastic blend of world, hip-hop, and alt-rock makes this album intriguing, provocative and fun. The lyrics are deep and poignant, yet the fl uidity of MC Yogi's vocals and the infectious world beats keep us fl oating above the moving music and poetry. He has an inviting way of intro- ducing his messaged opinions in a friendly melodic context that encourages you to dance and groove or just sit and listen intently to the lyrics. In track 4, "Road Home" (featuring Trevor Hall), MC Yogi raps about the angst of adolescence above an East Indian world beat and chant while we're moved into inner discovery, acceptance and equanimity. "Had to fi nd out what it was about, had to fi nd a way for my soul to break out… travel east to fi nd inner peace… God bless every child traveling the road home…" At a time when so many in the world are displaced persons seeking a place to live in peace, these words take on a broader meaning. This work is expertly produced by multi-platinum producer, Mike Green (All Time Low, Paramore, 5 Seconds of Summer), with appearances by artists Matisyahu, Trevor Hall, Dominic Balli, Golden Youth and Marti Nikko. Only Love Is Real can be enjoyed with friends at a dance event, in an energized fl ow-yoga class or while you're driving on your own road home. If you have never experienced Malia's voice and arrange- ments you are in for a heartfelt and beautiful treat. Her vocals have a transportive quality that lilts and fl oats throughout the chants and mantras on this stunning album. The Bridge to Val- labha evokes this one-world view through Sanskrit, Hebrew, Gurukh and English while inviting the possibility of a peaceful and harmonious co-existence. The artist was fi rst introduced to the rich spiritual tradition of Sanskrit mantras when world chant artist Jai Uttal invited her to sing with his Pagan Love Orchestra. Since then she has found her own voice within this growing healing movement and has shared it with artists Kenny Loggins, India.Arie, Bonnie Raitt, Bassnectar, Deva Pre- mal and Miten. In a tasteful blend, nylon guitar, vibraphone, cha- rangon, lap steel guitar, cello and rhodes piano, including per- formances by Grammy-nominated pianist Peter Kater and cellist Hans Christian are woven together along with the lovely singing of Donna DeLory, Heather Wertheimer of Shantala, Karnamrita Das, Jai-Jagdeesh, Peia and Sasha Rose. Yet the sublime magic happens on track 11, "Karpura Gauram," where Malia's soaring a cappella vocals soothe the senses ever deeper into an open- heart experience.
