NOSE-ABLES Waterfront T he San Francisco waterfront holds many discoveries, but finding a working distillery on the docks is won- drous even for the surprising City by the Bay. Distillery No. 209 was founded by Leslie Rudd of Dean & Deluca and Rudd Oakville Estate, who discovered the remnants of the original No. 209 distillery on his Napa Valley property and decided to revive the operation. The distillery is now headed up by two young and driven women, both MIT graduates: CEO Nicole Nollette and CMO Kathryn Frederick—an anomaly in the spirits world. Hand-fashioned and distilled five times at the beautiful Pier 50 facility in San Francisco—the world's only distillery built over water—No. 209 Gin marries the best of traditional Old World distilling techniques and time-honored ingredi- ents with innovative thinking and technology to create an artisanal gin with a modern, less juniper-heavy flavor profile. Last Passover, No. 209 broadly released the world's only certified kosher-for-Passover gin, No. 209 Kosher-for- Passover Gin. This year, the brand is launching No. 209 Kosher-for-Passover Vodka in time for the holiday. The original distillery celebrates its 130th anniversary this July, so we can count on some celebratory events in San Francisco. Stay tuned! TASTING NOTE No. 209 Gin is a brilliantly balanced gin with a citrus- and spice-laced palate, with the juniper taking a back seat—a classy, skillfully crafted spirit. —Robert Plotkin On the DISTILLERY NO. 209 GIN IS A SAN FRANCISCO ORIGINAL C M Y CM MY CY CMY K PHOTO COURTESY OF DISTILLERY NO. 209
