PLANNING A MEETING IN "AMERICAS FAVORITE PLAYGROUND" NEVER GOT MORE EXCITING! BY REGGIE MURPHY Planning a conference, convention, meeting or other event? Discover Atlantic City, a new kind of meeting destination. With event venues galore and more than enough attractions, activities and enter- tainment to keep attendees busy, AC should be at the top of your list. The city is equipped with numerous meeting ven- ues all within walking distance of the con- vention center. The Atlantic City Convention Center, designed to incorporate and reflect Atlantic City's seaside location, won the prestigious "Award of Excellence in Architectural Design" from the Pennsylvania Society of Architects. Regional decor is evident throughout the building, from the wave-inspired carpeting and granite flooring to the atrium's Rock Bar, an attractive setting for any event planner. The meeting venue is equipped with 600,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, 29 loading docks, 5 spacious exhibit halls and 45 meeting rooms. When it comes time to turn in for the night (or perhaps the morning, depending on whether or not you hit up Atlantic City's hottest nightlife spots), you'll find some superb choices. Atlantic City hotels and resorts offer casino gaming action, amazing views, fine dining and luxurious lodging all under one roof, while bed and breakfasts provide space to recharge and chain hotel rooms offer the most bang for your budget. Atlantic City beaches are famous, and rightly so. Everything you could possibly want is right here within walking distance, from shops to five-star restaurants to casinos, attractions and great shows — all benefits of being one of the few American beaches with boardwalks. Atlantic City Beach and Boardwalk activi- ties include surfing, kayaking, windsurfing and fishing. While there, conference attendees and leisure travelers alike are encouraged to explore the historical sites and popular monuments of Atlantic City that repre- sent the diversity and cultural contribu- tions put into the city. The African-American Heritage Museum Of Southern NJ is the only African-American heritage museum in NJ documenting the African-American experience of the 20th century. Over 11,000 treasures showcased on a rotating basis, are updated every month. The Museum also holds a col- lection of Atlantic County soldiers' memorabilia from World War I to pres- ent at the All Wars Memorial Building in Atlantic City. The Civil Rights Garden is a tranquil public sculpture garden comprised of 11 granite columns, winding pathways, plants, flowers, Gingko trees and sculp- tures with inscriptions related to the his- tory, events and people of the Civil Rights movement. Getting to Atlantic City is a breeze, thanks to the convenient Atlantic City International Airport (ACY). Located just 12 minutes from downtown Atlantic City and serviced by ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines, Air Canada, and Choice Aire, ACY serves more than 1 million passengers per year on thousands of flights to Atlantic City.
