14  /  the tasting panel  /  september 2015 THE MESSAGE 14  /  the tasting panel  /  september 2015 Brief Encounters Whether THE TASTING PANEL goes to the brand execs or the brands call us, there is an abundance of news to report, from the latest releases to behind-the-scenes experiences with some of the world's most influential importers, winemakers, distillers . . . well, you name it. We may not have enough pages in each issue to devote as much attention as we would like to each person whose path we cross, but please note that if it's in the publication, we deem it noteworthy. —Meridith May, Publisher & Editorial Director D uring a summer in which we had a rare blue moon (two full moons in a month), it only seemed fitting to join Dos Equis as they celebrated their Luna Rising campaign last month in Santa Monica, CA. A mysterious phone call invited us "pilgrims" to meet at a statue, where silver-bedecked ladies holding glowing orbs boarded people onto a shuttle that took us to a secret venue. After passing through a fog-filled entrance, we were greeted with a huge glowing moon that hung suspended over the dance floor. The Dos Equis Luna Rising campaign, which runs through the summer, suggests, "As the moon rises, so do the possibilities." In addition to their Lager and Ambar offerings, Dos Equis also provided beer cocktails, like their Dos-A-Stormy, with ginger ale, ginger beer, Gosling rum, agave nectar and Dos Equis Ambar. As the night grew late, men on stilts tottered among the crowd, and a woman in a delicate tulle dress with golden stag horns on her head performed a whirling dance with her suspendered partner. Each perfor- mance was more captivating than the last, and as the moon rose, so did the possibilities. —Jesse Hom-Dawson Dos Equis Gets Ethereal
