REVIEW www.postmagazine.com 47 POST AUGUST 2015 payloads of other 4K files in the same space, we moved right along in the process. The other interesting feature, which I thought was just fantastic, was the ability to stream live video from the camera on Ustream or YouTube via the camera's built-in IP address. Also, here's an example of how the application might apply to post and work for the 4K workflow. Remember you can stream in HD, and still record 4K on location. So, if you're, say, a senior editor supervising a heavy session, you can't just leave. But what if one of your other also very important post clients (aren't they all) wants you there on-site as an editor to look at things like shot composition, framing, color, etc., in realtime, to speed things up later when you're in post? No worries. The GY- LS300 records in 4K, and streams HD proxies. You can even take over control of the camera setting remotely if you want things to look a certain way. Lots better than having to have an unhappy client, and not knowing what you are going to get for post. CLOSING THOUGHTS I have shot and posted large screen documentaries and reality television projects that I wanted to look as close to 16mm or cinematic as possible. The GY-LS300 really captures that "look," or, for a camera with a street price of $3,995, comes pretty damn close. The Super 35 CMOS sensor, along with the variable mapping technology, make this a solid choice for digital cinemato- graphers and editors (dare I say me) who have to get "that" look, but also still have to pay for the crew and craft table, too. I also love that I could use my existing glass and that the camera could adapt to a variety of shooting scenarios. This camera does a lot of good things very well. With the GY-LS300, JVC has delivered a really solid, post-friendly, cinema-like camera that makes beautiful pictures without breaking the bank. A 3.7-inch flip-out LCD provides on-board monitoring. Two XLR inputs allow for mic options. 800-323-2325 Check us our at www.videoguys.com The most proven video editing software in the industry, trusted by professional editors in every segment of movie making, television, broadcast, and streaming media.
