STORAGE UPDATE www.postmagazine.com 42 POST AUGUST 2015 PANASAS GROWS ACTIVESTOR PLATFORM SUNNYVALE, CA — Panasas (www. panasas.com) has introduced the ActiveStor 18, the company's latest generation scale-out NAS appliance. ActiveStor 18 can scale to more than 20 petabytes and 200 gigabytes per second by adopting 8TB drive technol- ogy. ActiveStor 18 also offers increased CPU power and increased storage cache capacity over its predecessor. The ActiveStor 18 architecture com- bines high-capacity hard drives and fast flash devices for mixed-workload performance with rapid access to small and large files alike. The solution can be configured with up to 1.8PBs per rack (or 181.2TBs per 4U enclosure), leveraging 8TB drive technology. Flash capacity is optimized for RAID 6+ triple parity data protection. There is now two times more storage cache, with up to 2.7TBs per rack (or 272GBs per 4U enclosure), and the CPU is 19 percent faster. Panasas is now taking orders for ActiveStor 18, which is expected to ship in September. FACILIS FASTTRACKER TO MAKE EUROPEAN DEBUT HUDSON, MA — Facilis (www.facilis.com) is intro- ducing a number of new products to the European market at the IBC 2015 show next month — solutions for high-end and budget-conscious facilities — including its tracking product for under $3K that combines search, management and access to project assets in a simple interface. The Facilis FastTracker is a comprehensive application for cataloging, search- ing and viewing any media type within the Facilis TerraBlock Shared Storage System. It includes custom metadata tags, per-catalog user permissions, real "Boolean" search capability, and incremental indexing functionality. With un- limited users, and no browser-based dependencies, this application is a quick way to find clips, view them, and bring them into a project. Facilis FastTracker includes a desktop player that supports most popular image formats, including file sequences like DPX and Targa. Even when the edit room is busy, users can browse content, play finished mix-downs for approval, and log shot comments into custom metadata fields. Other products include the company's TerraBlock 24D/HA Hybrid Array, as well as the TerraBlock 8D eight-drive, 16TB turnkey content creation system. Q&A: G-TECHNOLOGY Greg Crosby, worldwide senior product line manager at G-Technology, recently answered a few questions from Post about the company's line of storage solutions and how they address the post community. G-Technology offers many storage solutions, which are most targeted towards the post production market and why? It's also compatible with the Evolution Series, offering ultimate flexibility." What were some of the applications you envisioned for these drives? "We designed the ev Rugged Series with creative pros in mind.
