people DAVID SPILSBURY London's MPC has promoted David Spils- bury to director of technology and operations for advertising. In his new position, Spilsbury is responsible for managing the London, Los Angeles, New York and Bangalore studios, as well as for continuing to grow the global network that sup- ports collaborative workflows. Spilsbury has played a big role in the expansion of MPCAdver- tising, where he's responsible for the development of the global pipeline as well as designing the technology aspects of the new studio in NYC. SPILSBURY HARRY MCGEE Production and operations vet Harry McGee has joined Harman's Mixer, Microphones and Headphones business unit based in Potters Bar, UK. McGee, who holds a BSc in Business and Management from the University of Maryland, started his career in the US Air Force, heading up operations. He later moved to US Defense Con- tract Management Command, as group opera- tions director, Northern Europe, before taking on civilian roles running operations for DeLaRue as GM, Dione as senior VP operations, and Vados Systems as COO. MCGEE GANIS SID GANIS SF-based Dolby Labs has hired Sid Ganis. His role will be to support Dolby's cinema busi- ness and expand relationships with the indus- try's creative leaders. Ganis, who most recently served as president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), will advise senior management on a variety of initiatives to better serve the creative, production and exhi- bition communities. He has held various corpo- rate and strategic positions at Sony Pictures Entertainment, including president of world- wide marketing for Columbia TriStar, vice chair- man of Columbia Pictures and president of marketing and distribution for Columbia Pic- tures, as well as posts at Lucasfilm, Warners, Paramount and Twentieth Century Fox. COLIN HAY In an effort to strengthen its position in Europe, The Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and as part of an overall initiative, Grass Valley has hired Colin Hay as its new VP for the Northern EMEA region. In his new role, Hay will develop and implement customer engagement plans across the region, focus on business develop- ment, and also manage the various Grass Valley local sales networks. He will be located in the UK, Previously, he was director strategic accounts at UK-based Red Bee Media. Prior to that Hay spent many years in the telco sector (with brands such as Motorola and O2). He has an MBA (Distinction) from Warwick Business School, where he is also an Associate Fellow. ANTHONY FERRARA QuietMan in NYC has hired Anthony Fer- rara. After several months of freelancing at the creative collective, he joins the staff full time. He's worked on a handful of jobs, most notably a graffiti-inspired promo for American Express featuring the band Coldplay. Prior to joining Qui- etMan, Ferrara freelanced as a graphics artist, animator and designer at Bikini Editorial, MD Designs and Fearless Management/Fearless Pro- ductions. He holds a bachelor's degree in Com- puter Art from the School of Visual Arts. SMALHEISER DAVID SMALHEISER ShootersNYC, the boutique offshoot of Phila- delphia-based ShootersInc, has added veteran editor David Smalheiser to its staff. Known for his comedy, lifestyle and vignette-style spots, Smalheiser's clients include agencies such as Saa- tchi, Ogilvy & Mather, BBDO, EuroRSCG and McCann Worldgroup. He has worked with direc- tors such as Spike Lee, David McNamara, Tim Hamilton, Tenny Fairchild, Annibel Jankel and Marcus Nispel.
