Using Infortrend's EonStor DS 3060 storage, con- nected with ATTO's Thunderbolt-enabled 2162 and 2082 Desklink Devices with several applications run- ning on it, like Final Cut Pro X and Adobe After Effects, the system allows CuriosityStream to meet the high read/write speeds needed to support its services and the multiple editors it has simultaneously working on multiple video streams. CuriosityStream is an ad-free, on-demand stream- ing service that provides programming intended to be informative, educational, inspirational and entertaining. It provides options in what, when and how consumers view content by offering a variety of predominant- ly-original content (by working with leading filmmak- ers to curate and produce short and program–length content in the areas of science, technology, civilization, and the human spirit) and offers its content on any de- vice connected to the Internet (as well as via Android and iOS apps). GRASS VALLEY IMPROVES EDIUS NLE MONTREAL — Grass Valley (www.grassvalley.com) has launched the latest version of its Edius nonlinear editing platform. Version 8 features a refreshed GUI, Canon XF-AVC support, a new workflow clip management tool, and accelerated 4K H.264 playback. An aggressive development program will introduce additional new creative tools in the coming months. Canon's recently announced XF-AVC video format is at the heart of the new 4K XC10 camcorder. Edius is one of the first NLEs to support the format. Edius 8 also includes a new GV browser tool to manage video and still image content on a PC prior to importing into Edius for editing. Edius 8 is optimized for the fourth-generation Intel Core i architecture. Support for Intel Quick Sync Video al- lows for extremely fast H.264 export. Some of the features planned for upcoming releases include motion tracking, slow-motion effects, a new color-grade mode, background rendering and Windows 10 support. Grass Valley is offering two versions of the application: Edius Pro and Edius Workgroup. The Pro version is targeted at production professionals looking for flexible editing that offers speed and the ability to handle any file format with a range of creative tools. The Workgroup release is aimed at collaborative news and sports editing for broadcasters, and can be fully integrated with the GV Stratus video production and content management system, or other third-party media asset management tools and server offerings. CINEDECK SOFTWARE ALLOWS FOR INSERT EDITING NEW YORK — Cinedeck (www.cine deck.com) has released Version 4.5 software for file-based insert edit. The release, which was previewed at NAB back in April, allows users to replace a single frame or multiple frames of vid- eo, an audio stem or track, or multiple audio tracks and video simultaneously, in a closed and flattened file. Version 4.5 works with popular editing inter- mediates, including DNxHD, ProRes, and AVC-I. By allowing for insert edits, studios no longer need to make changes to a file and re-render that entire file for delivery purposes. Fixes and changes are easy to make. The release also adds assemble edit (pause and seek in file re- cord mode), 32-channel audio support and Cuda H.264 encoder support. Cinedeck has Version 4.5.1 in public beta. Features include eight-channel input, CPU and GPU J2K encode sup- port, HD/UHD/2K/4K upscaling, and support for UHD/4K @ 50/60p.
