May 18 - June 8, 2015 11 Working World l WorkingWorld.com Combat Veterans to Careers helped Mason, and his family, relocate from North Carolina to Florida and find housing. After they made the move to the sunshine state, Combat Veterans to Careers helped find employment for both Mason and his wife, and made sure that their two children were enrolled at the local charter school. Once everything from the move was all settled, Combat Veterans to Careers worked with Mason to get on the right track with school to make his dream of becoming a firefighter a reality. Currently, Mason is going to the Fire Academy full time. Once he graduates, he will continue with school at Lake Tech for EMT school, the last step before being able to become a firefighter. "Becoming a firefighter is another step towards success for me and my family," Mason explains, "Overall, my transition has been like a roller-coaster. You have your ups and downs but I was taught throughout my military career to never give up and hold your head high. That's kind of been my life motto, and so far it seems to be working." Mason keeps working towards achieving his next goal in life, he is already planning to attend paramedic school after he completes EMT school and graduates from the Fire Academy on May 22nd. Through his struggles and achievements, he said he always has his family and Combat Veterans to Careers supporting him every step of the way.
