T We salute Teachers of the Month with WJBR 99.5 FM Page 15 Be ready for retirement Page 10 he disillusionment with the "Student Growth" section of DPASII-Revised (teacher and specialist evaluation system for this developmental year) is bubbling over as more and more of you understand that evaluating your ability to teach or do your jobs effectively will not be based on what you were hired to do – unless you teach English/Language Arts (ELA) and/or Mathematics in tested years. To do so is not fair, valid, reliable or legally defensible. How can a district take legal action against someone based on test results for which they are not responsible? Many of you have begun to tell your story to legislators, reporters and the Governor about your particular situation, and that your ability to teach or do your job will be determined by student test results on ELA and Mathematics DCAS tests, which may not be sub- jects you teach. The more you tell your stories, the more we find people nodding their heads in agreement: "This doesn't make sense." For more on DPASII and Component 5, see pages 12 and 13. Nov./Dec. 2011
