9 STORAGE SOLUTIONS MARCH 2015 STORAGE SOLUTIONS ATTO EXPANDS 12GB EXPRESSSAS HBA LINE AMHERST, NY — ATTO Technology, Inc. (www. is expanding its line of 12Gb ExpressSAS Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) with three new models — the H1244, H1248 and H1288 — each provid- ing internal and external ports for connecting up to 2,048 devices all while consuming a single PCIe slot. These low-profile adapters offer flexibility for connect- ing storage — JBOD, RAID storage, tape, SSD and HDD — all on the same adapter. Additional key features and benefits include: Low power consumption (use up to 40 percent less power to reduce energy costs and are fully compliant with PCIe 25W power specifications), power center pro RAID (ATTO integrates RAID 0, 1, 1e and 10 into select model 12Gb HBAs to provide easy to continue, easy to manage RAID capabilities), and true 16-port connectivity for large infrastructures (internal and external connectivity to provide low-latency and highest-density connections). STORAGE NEWS FACILIS TERRABLOCK PROVIDES SHARED STORAGE FOR OSLO POST HUDSON, MA — Facilis ( announces the successful delivery and commissioning of a 48TB TerraBlock 24D shared storage system to Norwe- gian film, TV and commercial post house, Oslo Post Company. For this Scandinavian creative post house, file access and organization are paramount to its daily operations. The creative team is tasked with delivering post services for a large volume of projects. In order to get each out the door in a timely fashion, the facili- ty's crew relies on an extensive arsenal of tools. Since coming on-stream, TerraBlock has been acting as a central pool from which employees can save and share project files. "There's a constant influx of work here," says Theodor Kristensen, Oslo owner. "So many differ- ent editors and colorists are contributing to projects simultaneously, so it's critical that we keep everything catalogued in one place where our team can instantly access it. That's where TerraBlock comes in. There's no way we'd be able to do what we do without an import- ant system like TerraBlock." TerraBlock's system is agnostic, allowing Oslo to employ a variety of tools for projects, including Avid Media Composers, Assimilate Scratch, Autodesk Flame, The Foundry's Nuke, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, and Adobe Creative Cloud, all connected to TerraBlock via a combination of 1 and 10Gb Ethernet. "We don't like to limit ourselves creatively to one application," Kristensen adds. "TerraBlock plays really well with all of the industry-standard tools." BRIGHT TECHNOLOGIES DEBUTS ASTELLA NX PRO RENO, NV — Bright Technologies (www.4bright. com) recently introduced the Astella Nx Pro, a NAS appliance that offers Fibre Channel SAN performance. Many post workflows are adopting higher compression rates, driving users toward a simpler NAS appliance approach, which offers a lower cost, easier deployment, and lower mainte- nance when compared to a Fiber Channel SAN. The Astella Nx Pro appliance shares a single NFS or SMB mount, and provides up to six concurrent uncompressed 2K streams (or up to two at 4K) via 10GbE from a single 4U enclosure with capacities up to 150TBs. This performance breakthrough leverages mixed drive types in a tiered strategy and RAID technology to provide realtime multi-stream performance from a compact NAS appliance. The ability to implement a concurrent high-resolution realtime workflow using familiar Ethernet components and simple, econom- ical NAS appliances creates new opportunities for entry-level and established post facilities.
