The IS-mini is a small hardware device that takes an incoming HD-SDI digital camera image and converts the color information via two sets of 1D LUTs and 3D LUTs to outputs of both HD-SDI and HDMI connections — all at an accelerated speed while still delivering high picture quality. The newly-improved Mini Manager Version 2.3.3 software adds several powerful features. Its user-friendly interface that bring post house-level color correction ca- pabilities to any on-set professional or home user on a personal computer. Several features require activation of the IS-mini Manager Plus+ license (a $500 value), which is being offered free of charge to any IS-mini user until April 1, 2015. 4K moni- tor calibration is made possible through multiple IS-mini units feeding four inputs. Multiple IS-minis, connected by way of a USB hub, can be accessed from within the main screen of Mini Manager 2.3.3, and also within the color correction window. During color correction, the changes can be immediately sent to only one IS-mini, or to all the connected units in unison. Crucially, during color correction, Mini Man- ager will cascade the monitor calibration correction enabling precise grading, even with low-end monitors. Newly added is timecode logging to save looks for future color grading. The powerful Web-based LUT browsing tool allows the user to access many hundreds of ACES-based camera LUTs from Fujifilm, including many with negative and positive film stock emulations. In addition, Mini Manager Plus+ has the capability of importing and exporting LUTs from many different color corrector format types, allowing simple exchange of looks between on-set and post houses. For digital imaging technicians and colorists, the new Tone Curve tool and special 12-vector color manipulation functions will be beneficial for creating and refining the cinematographer's inten- tions. The enhanced color measurement tool in the monitor calibration section now features automatic gray scale and RGB mea- surements for demanding color professionals. The software is available for free of charge to any IS-mini user via the compa- ny's Website (http://www. fujifilm.com). POST TV RETURNS TO NAB LAS VEGAS — Post TV returns to the NAB show floor once again this year, with plans to deliver interviews with many of the industry's lead- ing manufacturers, organizations and studios, all from booth SL10527 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Last year, Post's Marc Loftus and Linda Romanello brought viewers interviews with more than 30 companies, including Assimilate, Blackmagic Design, Avid, Canon, AJA, Adobe, Killer Tracks and Maxon. We also sat down with creatives from such studios as Imaginary Forces, AlphaDogs, Firestone Studios and SMPTE, whose executive director Barbara Lange is pictured below (left). While NAB is typically the platform for new product roll-outs, Post TV also covers VFX, color correction, editing, cameras, audio, and storage updates. We also check in with studio talent at the show too.
