www.postmagazine.com 40 POST MARCH 2015 NAB PRODUCTS AJA RELEASES V.1.1 FIRMWARE FOR CION PRODUCTION CAMERA GRASS VALLEY, CA — AJA Video Systems (www.aja.com) will feature its newly released V.1.1 firmware for the CION 4K/UltraHD and 2K/ HD production camera, which only recently started shipping. This software update increas- es the Exposure Index (EI) values to EI 320, EI 500, EI 800 and EI 1000, as well as offers improved highlight handling capabilities. According to AJA, the CION is ergonomic and lightweight in design, with lots of connec- tivity, and is capable of shooting at 4K/UltraHD and 2K/HD resolutions. In-camera recording directly to the Apple ProRes family of codecs, including 12-bit ProRes 444, enables high im- age quality capture to AJA Pak SSD media at up to 4K/60p, and offers compatibility with a wide range of post applications. CION can also output AJA Raw at up to 4K 120fps via 4x3G- SDI or up to 4K 30fps via Thunderbolt. The V.1.1 firmware is field-upgradeable, and is easily uploaded to the CION camera via the built-in Web UI with a standard Web browser. CION is available for $8,995. FORBIDDEN OFFERS 'NEW' FORSCENE LONDON — Forbidden Technologies (www.forbidden.co.uk) will feature the new Forscene, which was unveiled at the 2014 IBC show in Amsterdam and went live in December. According to the company, the newly-designed Forscene interface provides an efficient and enjoyable user experience, with a new infusion of functionality by adding a media asset management (MAM) system. Through the Forscene MAM, users have the full potential of the platform — from acquisition to publishing — accessible to them. With the new functionality provided by the Forscene MAM, customers can: Move media between Forscene servers in different locations; rename, share, and publish media from various accounts in the Forscene MAM; manage and configure ingest servers from the cloud, including assigning access to media storage and setting up watch folders for ingest; and configure publishing settings and formats from the Forscene MAM. Other new Forscene fea- tures include the ability to publish with burnt-in timecode or other metadata, expanded multicam logging to support up to 18 cameras simultaneous- ly, and increased support for different formats that enables functions such as editing MXF files during ingest. PANASONIC RELEASES FREE FIRMWARE UPGRADE FOR VARICAM 35/HS CAMERA/ RECORDERS NEWARK, NJ — Panasonic (www.us.panasonic. com) is announcing a free firmware upgrade for its new VariCam 35 4K and VariCam HS camera/recorders that incorporates ProRes 422 HQ support for HD recording in both models. Additionally, AVC-Intra 4K 4:4:4 12-bit recording, and AVC-Intra 100 and AVC-Intra 4K-LT (4:2:2) variable frame rate recording support up to 120fps are new to the VariCam 35. The inclusion of ProRes 422 HQ positions the VariCam 35 and VariCam HS within a well-es- tablished and widely-accepted HD production workflow. The VariCam 35's AVC-Intra 4K 4:4:4 12-bit codec is optimized for high-quality field production (especially when extensive grading maybe be required) and graphics flexibility, and the expansion of VFR up to 120fps in the Vari- Cam 35 enhances its utility in 4K and HD sports/ VFX production. The firmware upgrade also enables the LAN connection on both models so that Panasonic's AK-HRP200 camera remote controller can be used with an Ethernet cable connection to facili- tate camera matching during live production. MAXON ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF CINEMA 4D RELEASE 16 FRIEDRICHSDORF, GERMANY — Maxon (www.max on.net) is announcing the availability of its Cinema 4D Release 16 (R16), the next generation of the com- pany's 3D software. In addition to a number of work- flow enhancements, Cinema 4D R16 delivers new features, including a modeling PolyPen 'super-tool,' a Motion Tracker for easily integrating 3D content with- in live footage, and a Reflectance material channel for multi-layered reflections and specularity. The list of new features for rendering, modeling, UV editing, workflow & interface, sculpting and mo- tion tracking includes a new Team Render Server that adds server functionality to Team Render, the ability to add jobs to Team Render Server either via watch- folder or a Web interface, paint polygons that can create point sequences or extrude edges intuitively, and the ability for existing and newly-created points, edges and polygons to be moved, extruded, deleted, subdivided, etc. Cinema 4D Release 16 is available through Maxon and its authorized dealers; Release 16 is available for both Mac OS X and Windows.
