Stock Footage Gallery Sony clips feature 5.1 soundtracks March of Time's restored 'Crusade in the Pacific' via HBO Archives CULVER CITY, CA — Sony Pictures Stock Footage (www.sonypicturesstockfootage.com) has introduced a new stock footage collection featuring motion picture quality clips that include custom-designed 5.1 soundtracks. The "5.1 Collection" includes car chases, explosions, helicopter shots and other types of stunts and pyrotechnics, all drawn from recent studio film and television productions. The collection is designed for filmmakers seeking high-quality clips that are finished and ready for immediate use. Soundtracks were designed, edited and mixed in 5.1 surround sound by artists at the Sony Pictures Sound facility. All of the clips are available in a variety of formats and can be previewed on the Sony Pictures Stock Foot- age Website. "We developed this collection in response to the many requests we have received from advertising agen- cies, corporate media producers and others who want motion picture quality clips combined with spectacular 5.1 sound at a reasonable price," notes sales manager Rick Sievers. "These clips were already amazing, but the addition of sound effects, mixed at a world-class facility, really brings them to life." The stock collection includes a variety of extended playback sequences edited to resemble specific types of television programming. The mock TV scenes require no additional licensing fees and are available with or with- out 5.1 sound. Subject areas include sports, news, docu- mentaries and dramas. New clips will be added on an ongoing basis. Sony Pictures Stock Footage is home to more than 150,000 clips and expands through outtakes from Colum- bia Pictures, TriStar Pictures and Screen Gems feature films, as well as Sony Pictures Television productions. NEW YORK — Twenty-six episodes from March of Time's miniseries Crusade in the Pacific have been restored and are now avail- able for footage clip licensing from HBO Archives. March of Time is a newsreel and docu- mentary series pro- duced by Time Inc. from 1935 to 1967. Crusade in the Pacific was nation- ally syndicated in 1951. Since reintroducing March of Time (www. hboarchives.com/marchoftime) in 2007, HBO Archives has been re-cataloging, restor- ing and transferring the original 35mm films to HD video. HBO Archives has also been developing additional March of Time produc- tions. Select episodes from The Crusade in the Pacific miniseries are now online for instant access to researchers. iStockphoto turns five, note trends CALGARY, ALBERTA — iStockphoto (www.istockphoto.com) recently celebrated its fifth anniversary by offering discounts on video purchases as well as a free download of its first-ever video by member "geopaul." Jim Goertz, director of video content development at iStockphoto, notes a number of trends that he is seeing take place in the stock video business, particularly the use of stock due to reduced ad budgets and the growing demand for online video content. iStockphoto's video library contains almost 400,000 files. Its team of more than 6,500 contributors adds roughly 2,500 files per week. Some of the top videos sold include footage representing technology, spirituality and hectic lifestyles. Additional trends include demand for gritty, authentic stock videos that imitate reality, and an increased call for more edited mini-films. Many of the provider's contributors use DSLR cameras to shoot stills and video simultaneously. • Footage & text online searching • retrieval & download • high-deFinition video footage@hboarchives.com 1-877-426-1121 hboarchives.com 22 Post • November 2011 www.postmagazine.com
