L OS ANGELES — During REDucation Community Day at LA Center Studios, Assimilate (www.assimilateinc.com) introduced Rocket Fuel, a new bundle of tools for handling the realtime in- gest, conform, delivery and output of Red One 4K digital camera material. The package is priced at $10,999 and includes an Nvidia Quadro FX3800 SDI board, Red's Red Rocket card, and Assimilate's Scratch Cine 4K post workflow. The package is designed for use with a PC- workstation and gives users working with Red 4K material a number of functions, including the ability to tape dailies to a variety of formats, from NTSC and PAL, up to dual-link 2048x1080. It allows for screening in most formats, and allows for accelerated data output to QuickTime and file sequences. The system can also be used to quality check dailies on-set and to conform R3D files from editorial EDLs. The package provides set-up for Scratch Finish, a low-cost method of getting timelines set-up for migrating to Finish for final mastering and deliver y, and a low-cost method of getting timelines set-up and ren- dered for migrating to other DI systems. Scratch Cine V.5 is a native 64-bit application with Windows 7 as the operating system. Assimilate intros Rocket Fuel bundle ADS invests in DI H OLLYWOOD — Advanced Digital Services (www.adshollywood. com) has added a DVS Clipster DI system that allows the studio to complete a variety of DI tasks, including capturing, DCI mastering and the ability to edit uncompressed 4K data. The system is being employed in ADS's newly opened digital opera- tions center and is being used to handle the sophisticated encoding and transcoding specifications of client Universal. According to technical operations manager Tom Sehenuk, the new Clipster allows the studio to produce JPEG2000 workflows in realtime. ADS is performing encoding for Universal's archive right now, and the client specifically requested a Clipster because it is cer tified to handle their JPEG2000 requirements. Clipster can also suppor t the direct decoding of Redcode RAW material in the timeline.
